The Bay Bridge: Men at Work at Lunch

Thanks to Margena and Victor at the Bay Bridge Public Information Office (and of course, the persistence of my lovely wife Lindsay), we were fortunate enough take a tour this morning of the Bay Bridge Seismic Safety Projects, specifically the construction of the new Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge.

As you can imagine, having this kind of access to such a large-scale project meant I captured many photos but I wanted the first couple of posts to focus on the 300 hard-working and dedicated men and women who work at the site, building every square inch by machine and by hand. Around noon, I noticed the workers quietly retreat to shaded areas and pull out their lunch – some in groups, some by themselves, and some inside the same machine they occupy all day long. It was one of those quiet and relaxed moments in an otherwise noisy and busy construction site. With the permission of the PIO, the safety officer and the workers themselves, I captured the photos below. I will share all the full-size photo originals with the PIO to ensure that the workers photographed all get a copy of these photos.

I recommend that you click on each of the photos to see it in light box mode.
