Changdeokgung Palace (창덕궁) is one of the “Five Grand Palaces” built by the kings of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897) in Seoul, South Korea. Meaning “Prospering Virtue Palace” and also referred to as the “East Palace”, Changdeokgung was initially established in 1395 and was built, burned to the ground, and rebuilt on several occasions. Changdeokgung was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.
